Water polo: ROOSEVELT 10, HPA 0

Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s girls water polo team’s season ended Monday afternoon against Roosevelt — falling in a narrow 10-8 loss in the opening round of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) playoffs at the Kona Community Aquatic Center. Ka Makani ended 2024 after falling to Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i in the BIIF Championships on April 27 and then to the Rough Riders.

Roosevelt had a balanced attack from its offense, logging six different scorers in the match. Kimberly Cassens finished with three goals, Jochel Oba two, Jazlyn Tomisa two and Jaeci Oba, Jonna Keo and Malia Lauret all had one apiece.

HPA star Maile Imonen finished with a game-high six goals, ending her season tied for first in state Division I in cumulative goals with 53. Imonen’s teammates — Ione Chicone and Rosey Wawner — scored one goal each.

The Rough Riders will next face No. 1-seeded Punahou in the quarterfinals at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama in Honolulu.
